38th Farmers’ Day Celebrations

The 38th Municipal Farmers Day celebration was held at Terchire Community Park, Terchire and the theme for the year’s celebration was “Accelerating Agricultural Development through Value Addition”.  The durbar was held on 2nd December 2022 at Terchire Community Park, it was marked with a series of events which included speeches from invited dignitaries, cultural displays, choreography, demonstrations from fire officers, a foodstuffs exhibition, and presentation of awards and among others

The Occasion was chaired by Otumfour Brempong Okoh-Agyemang Boakye II, Chief of Terchire. About Eight hundred farmers and well-wishers attended the event from the following neighbouring communities; Duayaw-Nkwanta, Yamfo, Techire, and Asukese. Bomaa, Dagyemem, Susuanso, Adrobaa, Afrisipa among others. Some of the personalities who graced the occasion were the Municipal Chief Executive of Tano North Municipal Assembly, Nana Ansah Bonsu Adu Baah, Omanhene of Yamfo Traditional Council, Nana Nsowah Okokroko of Duayaw Nkwanta Traditional Council, Nana Adusei Brempong, Adontehene of Adrobaa, Nana Basoa, Council of State Member for Ahafo Region, Municipal Co-ordinating Director, Hon. Presiding Member, Assembly members, Heads of Department, NGGL representative, Staff of Tano North Municipal Assembly, the Security Services such as the Police, Prisons, Immigration, Queen Mothers, Market Kings/Queens Association, NGO’s in Agric and Farmer based groups.

The Municipal Director of Agriculture welcomed all stakeholders for gracing the occasion and congratulated the Awardees for their continuous efforts to feed Ghanaians. He advised farmers to form groups to enable them to purchase simple processing tools in order to add value to their produce in times of gluts to increase profit. He explained the criteria for selecting farmers for the award. He added that to be adjudged as an award winner one needs to satisfy the criteria set by the technical team. He further explained that to excel in the grand award, a farmer needs to diversify, thus he/she should have livestock, crop and fish farming

The Hon. MCE, Ernest Kwarteng expressed his delight in joining the gallant farmers to observe this colorful and memorable occasion of the 38th Annual Municipal Farmers’ Day Celebration. He indicated that the theme for the year’s Farmers’ Day Celebration was appropriate because the concept of value addition in Agriculture, especially, fisheries and aquaculture present very good opportunities for additional revenue generation, foreign exchange earnings, and effective post-harvest management. This was why Akuffo – Addo led Government attached importance to agriculture because it is the main anchor of the country’s economy and provides employment for over sixty percent (60%) of the population and 40% of Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
