SENSITIZATION ON GENDER BASED VIOLENCE (GBV) AND CHILD PROTECTION IN CHURCHES ON THE 6TH AND 20TH APRIL, 2024

Gender-based violence (GBV) and child protection are critical issues that require collective action. Why the department of social welfare and community development and NCCE collaborated to educate these churches at Duayaw Nkwanta, namely; ICGC ,Calvary Charismatic Church, and Holy Ghost Vineyard Church. Educating the congregation emphasizes the role of families and communities in safeguarding children and promoting gender equality.

  1. Understanding GBV and Child Protection: GBV includes physical, emotional, or sexual abuse based on gender. Child protection focuses on preventing harm, abuse, neglect, and exploitation of children. The church must recognize these as violations of human human dignity and rights.
  2. Role of Parents and Guardians:
Parents should be attentive to their children’s needs, provide a safe environment, and communicate openly. This helps children feel loved and protected while building trust to share their challenges.
  3. Recognizing Signs of Abuse:
Educate members to identify signs of abuse, including behavioral changes, physical injuries, or withdrawal. Early detection allows for timely intervention.
  4. Preventive Actions:
o Encourage equitable treatment of all genders within the family.
o Advocate for proper supervision and guidance for children.
o Promote respectful relationships and teach children about their rights and boundaries.
  5. Community Involvement:
Churches can collaborate with social welfare, and law enforcement to report cases of abuse and support affected individuals. Strengthening community networks helps to create a protective environment for everyone.
The Key Message is for parents, guardians, and the church as a whole have a shared responsibility to protect children and address GBV. By fostering love, respect, and vigilance, we can raise morally upright children and create a safer community.
