SANITATION DAY EXERCISE AT TANOSO

The sanitation exercise formed part of the ongoing initiatives aimed at reducing waste accumulation, preventing disease outbreaks, and fostering community participation in environmental management. It also served as a platform to educate the public on proper waste management practices and to strengthen community involvement in sanitation maintenance.

The Sanitation Day exercise was observed in Tanoso within the Municipality on 1st November, 2025. The activity was led by the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit, in collaboration with the Hon. Member of Parliament for the Tano North Constituency, Chief and elders, Assembly Members and the Unit Committee of Tanoso, as well as residents of the community.

Hon. MP, Dr. Gideon Boarko delivered a brief speech encouraging ownership of sanitation initiatives and pledged to support when the need arise and also with logistics. The Chief and elders encourage community members especially the youth on the cultural value of cleanliness. Environmental Health Officers supervised the exercise and educated participants. Police officers also ensured safe conduction of the activity by maintained law and order to prevent any disturbances.

Media (TV3, UTV, CIC) were present to document the clean-up activities, interaction with opinion leaders and participation level. Live interview was also held to highlight sanitation issues and community efforts. With the mobilization and publicity, the community information centres (CIC) also played a role by aired announcement.
